How to Find a Job Abroad? The current economic downturn has many people wondering how to get a job abroad. This is particularly true for those working in developed countries like the US, UK and Australia who are feeling the pinch of the recession. Many of these countries have tight employment markets which make it difficult for job seekers to get hired. In order to tackle this problem, international businesses and multinational corporations are moving their focus to developing countries which offer good-paying jobs and better conditions.

However, finding good job opportunities abroad isn’t as simple as finding a US or Australian job. These companies typically prefer local talent to imported labor as they believe that they will get better results. As a result, they are usually quite conservative in hiring practices. They are more likely to reject applicants that can’t even speak English properly! So where do you start?

Do a web search. There are plenty of employment websites online that can help you locate employers looking for workers from your country. It’s also a good idea to check out your local newspaper and employment agencies as well. Check out classifieds ads as well. These can often be quite extensive and cover many job types. Do a little bit of research before taking up any job however.

Visit an employer’s website. Look for information about the company, their requirements, what they’re looking for in an employee and whether you meet these requirements. Some websites will even let you apply for positions online immediately. Visit these websites as well.

Try to determine your skills. A good rule of thumb when learning how to find a job abroad is to learn what you are good at. You can do this by reading job descriptions to see if the job requires skills that you have. For example, if you are good at writing, you may want to consider writing posts or blog posts for employers. Determine which skills are important to you and search for jobs accordingly.

Look into what resources you have available. If you are working in your home country, you may have access to networks and professional associations that can help you connect with potential employers. Check them out to see if any of them may be able to help you find work. For instance, trade and industry associations often provide networking opportunities. As well, your local university may be able to provide you with information on job openings or contact organizations that can help you get jobs in other countries.

Make sure you keep up to date on news and events concerning your country. If you are currently living and working abroad, keep up to date with news about the business community, political situations and employment options. You may need to network with others who are also interested in finding a job in your field. Keep your resume updated, as well as your Facebook and MySpace pages. Many employers post their requirements on social media sites. If you know you will be applying for jobs in a particular city, create a page for that city on your Facebook page or MySpace.

When you start looking for jobs abroad, it is critical that you not only know how to speak the language, but that you know how to do so fluently. In some cases, you may be able to get away with using a translator, especially if your employer is providing an entirely written document. However, it is still crucial that you know how to speak the language. Even if you don’t think you need to, it never hurts to be sure. This is important no matter where you eventually land the job!
